Innovate Learning Centre offers a wide range of superb English
language courses to suit all needs. These courses aim to increase
the student's confidence in communicating effectively in written and
spoken English, including Business English, in a variety of contexts
as appropriate.
The English courses are offered at following different levels.
Beginner
The focus of learning is practical everyday English with an emphasis
on relevant vocabulary so that the student can participate in
Birmingham life and make the most of their visit. Classroom games
and other activities make learning efficient and enjoyable. Many
students seek part-time work and this course is designed to help
them on their way to independence.
Elementary
The learning process is very exciting as students acquire language
very quickly at this level. The interactive classroom approach
ensures that there is an opportunity to practise speaking and
listening skills with an emphasis on clear pronunciation. Grammar is
taught in class and students are encouraged to learn the patterns
that will be of most relevance to them in their personal lives.
Reading and writing are taught in such a way that our students have
the opportunity to personalise their English. Preparation for the
Cambridge KET is covered in these classes for those students who
choose to take the exam.
Pre-Intermediate
At this level our students can express themselves confidently and
have rewarding conversations with native speakers. A variety of
tenses are covered in order to allow more sophisticated expression
in both the written and spoken word. Our students learn with the use
of authentic material so that they can integrate the language used
in the classroom with that encountered in real-life situations. As
in all levels, the variety of teaching methods ensures that each
student learns in a way that matches their learning style.
Preparation for the Cambridge PET is covered in these classes for
those students who choose to take the exam.
Intermediate
Students have an operational command of language at this stage and
are taught to understand more complicated texts and interaction
patterns so that they can use English more effectively for
professional or academic purposes. Our teachers, at times, point out
students' errors and encourage them to correct themselves so that
they can use language accurately outside the classroom. Preparation
for the Cambridge First Certificate is covered in these classes for
those students who choose to take the exam.
Advanced/Upper Intermediate
The student has full operational command of the language at this
level and can understand almost everything that is spoken or written
in the target language. Various writing and speaking styles are
covered in lessons so that the learner has a larger repertoire of
expression and is prepared if they choose to take the Cambridge
Advanced exam. At this level our students enjoy learning more about
the respective cultures of native English speakers through the way
they use language. With the use of their wide range of grammatical
structures, students are encouraged to express complex concepts in
both the spoken and written word.
IELTS
One of the most popular English exams in the world, IELTS is
accepted for university entrance, immigration and employment
purposes in the UK, Canada, Australia, and increasingly, in the USA.
At ILC, we realise that the student's achievement of their necessary
score is an important step in their academic and professional
career. All areas of the test are covered in lessons and students
are given individual coaching in their areas of weakness and are
encouraged to maximise their strengths in order to achieve as a high
a score as possible. Exam technique is taught in detail and there
are numerous occasions where exam conditions are simulated.
IELTS FOUNDATION
The IELTS Foundation Course is designed to give learners at lower
levels an advantageous boost in preparing to take the IELTS test.
Entry Requirements
Entry requirement to these levels is open although students are
carefully assessed to ascertain which course and level will be most
beneficial for them to join. Access to the IELTS class will depend
on specific initial assessment but in general, students who are
below Upper Intermediate Level will need to start in the IELTS
foundation class.
Classes Schedule
Most of our English courses are held five days a week comprising
three hours of teaching per day. Short, evening and weekend classes
are also available. Please enquire for further details.
